Ms. Van Ornum’s teaching career began in 2006. Since then, her experiences have spanned six public school districts across Park Ridge, Skokie Harwood Heights, Lincolnwood and Wilmette. Ms. Van Ornum has taught Kindergarten through fourth grade in various positions including Classroom Teacher, Instructional Assistant, Special Education Instructional Assistant, and interim Reading Specialist.
She graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a BA in Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology. Ms. Van Ornum currently attends National Louis University to obtain a Specialized Master’s in Education with two endorsements: English as a Second Language and Reading Specialist. In addition, Ms. Van Ornum’s membership with the International Literacy Association and the Illinois Reading Council helps her to keep up with current best practices.
For first through 8th grade, Ms. Van Ornum attended St. Peter School in Skokie. “Coming to St. Joseph reminds me of my childhood academic and religious upbringing which makes me feel right at home. St. Joseph has an endearing sense of family community that helps everyone to thrive together!”
