Kindergarten
is a strong academic program concentrating on reading, writing,
and math. In addition, science and social studies play a large
role. Parent volunteers come in regularly to assist the teachers
with reading and journaling. Included in the academic program
is the beginning study of Spanish which continues through eighth
grade.
Religion
is taught on a daily basis. An environment based on Gospel values
permeates the entire program. Mutual respect and understanding
between teacher and students makes for a warm and caring atmosphere.
The kindergarten students join the older students in school
at Mass twice a month, thus nurturing at an early age a faith
commitment to Jesus. The religious dimension of our kindergarten
program sets the tone for the entire year.
Art,
music, physical education, and computers round out the well-balanced
kindergarten program. We always keep in mind that these young
children are five years old, and so we make sure that the curriculum
is developmentally appropriate. The children are given the opportunity
to try out new activities, develop small and large motor skills
through play, and develop their innate curiosity through activities
that stress creativity.
Kindergarten
is a transition year between preschool and first grade, and,
as such, it is good to have these young students come to school
for a full day so that they will be better prepared for the
added structure of first grade.
