The St. Joseph
School Board advises and supports the school faculty and administration
on school procedures. Board responsibilities include:
- Ensure
all school policies are in concert with the teachings of the
Catholic Church, the Christian formation of children, and the
Archdiocese of Chicago
- Oversee
fiscal responsibility for the prudent operation of the school
- Set tuition
rates and fees
- Advise
on the school budget, and work with the Parish Council and the
Parish Finance Committee to ensure the school operates under
a balanced and fiscally responsible budget
- Recruit
and retain students
- Advise
in the hiring and evaluation of the school principal
Every year,
three seats open up on the St. Joseph School Board. Information
on applying for an open Board position is generally available
in January.
Board
Meetings
The St. Joseph
School Board usually meets the fourth Monday of every month (except December)
at 7:00 p.m. in the Neumann lounge. Meetings are open to all parish
and school families. Whenever possible, a copy of the meeting
agenda will be included in the school newsletter prior to the
meeting. We will also continue to set aside "open mic"
time at each meeting for parent comments or questions.
Long
Range Plan
In 2005, the School
Board with the help of school parents and other parishioners completed a Long Range Plan that supports the mission
and established key near-term goals for school improvement, including:
- completion
of the Trailblazer Resource Center
- increased enrollment
- pre-school improvement and accreditation
- facility improvements (i.e.: improved playground, updated basement,
and additional classrooms)
- Spanish curriculum enhancement

Board
Committees
- Marketing/Recruitment - Development and support of recruitment programs and public
relations for the School. This committee develops and maintains
informational materials necessary for this purpose. A marketing
subcommittee made up of volunteers assists the Board.
- Finance/Scholarship - Study, research and develop position papers on issues affecting
the financial affairs of the School. The Committee reviews the
annual budget of the School for presentation to the Board with
its observations and recommendations for Board vote and the
Pastor's approval. Monitor the Scholarship program for the School.
This Committee develops and implements the procedures for the
scholarship process.
- Internal
Affairs - Implement the nominating process for new School
Board members. The Chair of this Committee acts as the Chair
of the Nominating Committee. This Committee also periodically
reviews the Constitution and By-laws of the School Board, studies
and recommends revised and new By-laws and procedures for the
Board, presents for consideration By-laws introduced by other
standing and special committees, and maintains the School Board
policy book.
- Long
Range Planning - Construct an outline and process for the
development of the school's five-year plan. Together with the
direction of faculty and staff, the Committee creates a plan
that serves as the roadmap for the School in years ahead. The
plan covers the school's future requirements in six key areas:
curriculum, student life, physical plant, personnel, finance
and development.
- Annual
Fund/Development - Solicit donations to support annual operating expenses via the Annual Fund, and develop other donations to build a long term endowment for school improvement.
